FROM OUR WOODS TO THE LINAGLIA POND

Linaglia Pond

Duration: approx. 2 h (straight route)
Difficulty level: E – easy (easy hiking trail)
Length: 6 km approx. (round trip)
Difference in height: almost zero

Between the Roman aqueduct and the Linaglia pond, the path leads directly from the Agriturismo Ai Massi estate to a piece of Mediterranean nature, Tuscan vineyards and historic aqueducts.

From the property, we enter the woods where our guide will point out typical Mediterranean flora, the trees in our woods and trails through the countryside.

The walk continues through the woods and then enters the Poggio Gagliardo estate, where you will come to the pretty Linaglia Pond, where flora and fauna dominate the scene and only the sounds of nature surround you.

Along the trail you can see the remains of a Roman aqueduct, now a “victim” of nature which has overgrown it, but nevertheless a witness to a living and ancient past in our area.

Continuing along the path through the Poggio Gagliardo estate, the guide will lead you to the “calanche” (badlands), red earth, shining in the sun and shaped by water.

These hills take on their unique appearance due to the draining effect of rain, as water works the clay.

All around you are the Poggio Gagliardo vineyards, a quintessential Tuscan landscape with stretches of vineyards and wild flowers.

During the entire walk, your guide will help you spot the small animals that populate the Mediterranean brush and point out native flora and the most interesting trees.
